Chiefs lashes out at Lungu attackers
DISRESPECTING the Head of State will not make any politician popular but merely satisfy their ego, Chief Chiyengele of the Mbunda people of Western Province has said.
The traditional leader said it was only in Zambian where people wanted to wash dirty linen in public to embarrass the country, forgetting that might affect the country negatively and this could be everyone’s burden.
Chief Chiyengele advised Zambians not to listen to leaders disrespecting the Head of State because they had nothing to offer, adding the people must remain patriotic and desist from destroying the country’s democracy and leadership.
“President Edgar Lungu is trying his best to take development to all parts of the country, and this can be seen because Zambia is not the same as it used to be in recent years,” he said.
He said the fact that there were people who wanted power at any cost must not bring the name of the President into disrepute. Chief Chieyengele said it was sad that people wanted to make politics personal to inflict pain on anyone who appeared not to support them, but that frustrating government effort was not the answer.
He ap - pealed to Zambians to bring solutions that add value to the development of the country for their own benefit.
The traditional leader was elated with President Lungu who he said believed in the rule of law and had demon demonstrated unique qualities of a national leader.
He said the President had done this by taking the presi presidency close to the people and interacting with the poorest and often marginalised.
“Let us not take peace for granted by abusing our right to freedom of speech, but in instead such must be used to bring solutions to the chal challenges facing the nation,” the chief said.
