Police arrest 59 riotous Kitwe residents

MORE than 50 people have been arrested in Chamboli township of Kitwe and 15 vehicles damaged in a riot which was sparked by a prophesy from a pastor that a member of the Community Crime Prevention Unit (CCPU) was involved in witch-craft and was keeping an Ilomba at their offices at Mogadishu ground.

Copperbelt Commission­er of Police Chief Charity Katanga confirmed that 59 people have been arrested and detained in various police stations in Kitwe after they were involved in a riot which was sparked by a prophesy from a sastor.

Ms Katanga said in the ensuing riot, 15 vehicles including two police vehicles were damaged at the CCPU offices at Mogadishu ground after the residents accused the members of the CCPU of hiding the Ilomba.

"Yes, I can confirm that there was a riot in Chamboli township in the morning between 10:00hours and 11:00hours after a pastor prophesied that a member of the CCPU was keeping an Ilomba at the their offices,’’ she said.
