Be more pro-active, LCC told
THE Lusaka City Council and councillors should be more proactive than re-active in tackling the issues affecting people in communities, Ministry of Local Government Permanent Secretary Amos Malupenga has said.
Mr Malupenga said the LCC and councillors needed to be more pro-active in the way they address the many challenges people were facing such as waste management, drainages and other service provided by the council.
Mr Malupenga said the council should not wait for the community to complain before they could address the problem.
He said there were a lot of issues that the council was doing but needed to be explained to the people in communities.
Speaking during the ReLaunch of my Community TV programme on ZNBC TV2, Mr Malupenga challenged LCC and councillors to be more proactive than reactive when addressing challenges affecting people in communities.
“I want to challenge LCC and councillors across board to make a difference as they represent the people of Zambia in their respective wards and also for them to be proactive and not reactive when addressing the many challenges affecting the people,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mr Malupenga said My Community TV programme would help bridge the gap between stakeholders and the leaders in communities.
He said the programme would also help bring out the many pertinent issues affecting people in the community that could have been ignored by the council.
Mr Malupenga challenged the council to also explain to the people in the community on the many things that it was doing to address their challenges.
He said the government was committed to creating an enabling environment for its people, saying “elected leaders should not relent but be proactive to ensure the people they represent get what they were promised.”
He said time was gone when councillors could sit back and relax once elected waiting for the next elections without providing a service to the people in their respective wards.
