‘Decentralisation to spur development’
MWINILUNGA District Council chairperson Allan Kanyemba has urged all government departments devolved to the local authority to embrace the decentralisation process all levels of their operations to accelerate development as stated in the Vision 2030.
Mr Kanyemba said devolved government departments should continue responding positively to the Decentralisation Policy by reporting their activities and programmes to the council’s standing committees.
He was speaking in Mwinilunga last Friday during this year’s commemoration of African Day for Decentralisation under the theme, ‘Promotion and Effective Implementation of Local Economic Development of a Sustainable Solution for the Regional and Local to Forced Migrants in Africa’.
Mr Kanyemba was disappointed over some Government departments that had continued to show resistance to attend council standing committee meetings.
He said the trend, if left unchecked, was capable of undermining government efforts aimed at the full implementation of devolution.
And officiating at the event acting district commissioner Mwiya Thulani said Government placed emphasis on efficient and effective service delivery to all the citizens.
Mr Thulani said it was for that reason Government recognised the role played by local authorities with all devolved departments under decentralisation. -
