Keep me updated on projects, says MP
WUSAKILE Member of Parliament Pavyuma Kalobo has urged school authorities in his constituency to keep him informed about the progress and challenges they are experiencing in projects he has initiated in respective schools.
And Mr Kalobo has donated 21 computers worth K126, 000 to six secondary schools in the constituency to supplement government's efforts and also to make the computer lessons easy for pupils taking Information Communication Technology (ICT)
Mr Kalobo said it was important that school authorities kept him abreast about the progress and challenges of the various projects he had initiated in their schools as this would help him know how to handle the impediments. He was speaking at the weekend when he visited Kalela Secondary School where he had embarked on a project to construct a one by four class room block to meet the increasing demands for secondary school education.
Mr Kalobo was undertaking a similar project at Twashuka Combined School and Luangwa Secondary School where he was impressed with the progress of the two projects. He, however urged the school authorities at Kalela Secondary School to ensure that works on the construction of the one by four class room block started moving at a good pace.
"Let us work together in ensuring these projects of putting up a one by four class room blocks in various schools is completed on time. As we upgrade the schools from primary to secondary, we should increase the number of classes.
"This is why, using my personal resources, I decided to embark on these projects to supplement government's efforts to meet the increasing demands for secondary school education. So when you have challenges inform me so that I know how to handle those challenges,'' Mr Kalobo said.
Mr Kalobo donated four computers to Twashuka Combined School, two computers to Kalela Secondary School, four computers to Malela Secondary Schools, four computers to Chamboli secondary school, four computers to Wusakile Secondary Schools and three computers to Luangwa Primary School
He said, because of the shortage of computers in schools, some pupils who were doing ICT were completing their examination as late as 20:00 hours which was not safe especially for the girl child.
"I thought I should bring my gesture to these schools as a way of supplementing government's efforts. In this era of ICT, we need to support our children who are taking computer studies.
"My concern has been that because of shortage of computers, pupils, especially the girl children are subjected to know off late because they have to use limited computers during examinations,'' he said.
