‘Kambwili used forged papers’

- By NATION REPORTER

APOLICE o cer has testi ed that National Democratic Congress (NDC) leader Chishimba Kambwili opened Mwamona Engineering and Technical Services (METS) using forged documents in 2001.

Stanley Mumbula, 45, the arresting o cer in the matter, said this yesterday before Principal Resident Magistrate David Simusamba in the case where Kambwili has been charged with forgery, uttering a false document, and giving false information to a public o cer.

Mr. Mumbula said the national registration card number indicated on the docu

ments as that for Kambwili’s son Mwamba, one of METS directors, actually belongs to Kambwili’s sister Sampa Kambwili.

“ e same documents were acted upon by the Registrar of Companies to incorporate Mwamona Engineering and Technical Services,” Mr. Mumbula said.

He said signatures on other METS documents that purported to show that Kambwili’s wife Carol Chansa, his son Mwamba, and his sister Sampa were assimilated forgeries because they matched Kambwili’s signature samples as concluded by the handwriting expert.

He said Kambwili led the ‘no change return’ at the Patents and Companies Registration Agency (PACRA) with forged signatures through his agent Andrew Sampa who was his driver. Mr. Mumbula said his investigation was to ascertain if Kambwili was signing documents for METS, which was wrongly opened.

In cross examination, defence lawyer Keith Mweemba showed the witness a document showing that Kambwili’s son Mwamba gave his father power of attorney to sign the papers.

When Mr. Mweemba asked Mr. Mumbula if it could be forgery for Kambwili to sign on the documents when had the power of attorney, the witness said it could not.

Mr. Mumbula however said he does not know Mwamba and that he did not interview him during investigations but that it was necessary to interview him.

Before Mr. Mweemba could nish the cross-examination, Mr. Simusamba called both the State and the defence to the Bench, after which the case was adjourned to September 11, 2019.

Kambwili filed the no change return at the atents and ompanies egistration gency ith orged signatures through his agent ndre ampa ho as his driver.
