Don’t mislead congregants on Bill 10, Lungu tells Church
PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has cautioned clergymen not to mislead congregants on the Constitutional Amendment Bill no 10.
President Lungu challenged the clergy to read and interrogate the content of Bill 10 and make independent judgements.
He said he had noticed that some clergy were debating the document even without reading to understand the content.
The President said reading the document could help the Church explain the truth about Bill 10.
He said politicians had taken political stance on the matter but the Church could help by telling politicians the truth.
President Lungu said this when he met Choma Ministers Fellowship in Choma yesterday.
And the Head of State assured the clergy that his government would continue working with the Church.
He urged the Church to tell politicians the truth because that would help bring peace and unity and that the church should engage politicians both from the ruling party and the opposition political parties.
Meanwhile Minister
National Guidance and Religious Affairs Godfrida Sumaili urged the fellowship to line up activities for commemoration of declaration of Zambia as a Christian Nation on December 29.
Ms. Sumaili said 29 December was an important day for Zambia.
And Ministers Fellowship chairperson Chilufya Mulesi commended President Lungu's stance on gay rights.
Pastor Chilufya said the fellowship also wanted to influence peace and unity in the area.
He also requested for support from the Presidential Empowerment Initiative to help support several programmes including orphanages being run by the fellowship.
