Planned solar panels installation cheers Kabushi residents

- By MUYANI SHINJABALE

Plans to install solar panels by Mega Energy Limited have been welcomed by the Residents of Kaloko Ward in Kabushi Constituency.

The residents who filled in forms and applied for solar panels to be installed at their homes said they were eager for the company to install the solar panels to cushion the effects of load shedding.

In an interview, Kaloko Ward Resident Joyce Mwansa, a business woman who bakes cake, said her business had been affected terribly because of the long hours of load shedding.

Ms Mwansa said when customers made orders for cakes and power came back as late as 02:00 hours in the morning, she had to wait till then to bake the cake.

She therefore stated that the backup energy source from the solar would greatly cushion the effects of load shedding.

And Kaloko Ward Councilor Joseph Nyirenda advised the residents to apply stating that the project was for them.

And Mega Energy Limited Coordinator, Frazer Chiwawa said households whose solar panels will be installed were going to buy units as they did with Zesco. Mr Chiwawa said for residents who were already connected to ZESCO, the solar would be a backup source of energy which would automatically go on once there was a power cut. He said after six years of using the solar panels, the residents would be given an option to buy the solar or to continue buying units. He said once the solar was installed, the servicing and installation was free adding that the minimum lifespan of the solar batteries was 15 years.
