Kalabo trades training institute commissioned
PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has commissioned the Kalabo Trades Training Institute in Western Province which cost K30 million in line with government’s quest to ensure that each district had a trade training institute.
President Lungu said the commissioned Kalabo trades Training Institute demonstrated government’s unwavering commitment to equitable access to quality skills training and to ensure quality livelihoods for the people of Zambia. President Lungu said this in Kalabo yesterday.
“The construction of this trades training institute is in line with the Patriotic Front government’s promise to our citizens to ensure that each district sas a trades training institute to ensure inclusive access to skills education to all Zambians,” he said.
He said for Zambia to develop, there was need to invest in human capital in order for the country to respond to the dynamic and ever changing development challenges.
President Lungu said empowerment, employment creation and general human capital development were expected results of increased access to education and skills.
“In addition to the Infrastructure, government is promoting equality in the provision of education and skills development ,” President Lung us aid.
The Head of State said government was keen to provide the youthful population with increased opportunities for empowerment.
“Last year I commissioned Mwense and Isoka trades training institutes. This program will continue. I am aware that construction works at Sesheke, Mumbwa, Mporokoso and Lundazi trades training institutes are progressing well and are at varying levels of completion,”he said.
President Lungu said government remained committed to changing the environment for the benefit of the people of Zambia and there was no doubt that government had made significant strides in transforming the face of the country.
He said the trades training institute that was commissioned had brought more development to Kalabo District and Western Province.
And speaking at the same event, Minister of Highet Education Dr said Brian Mushimba said the project which started in 2012 was officially scheduled to be completed in 2016 but before the completion of the construction Mongu Kalabo road the contractor had challenges in transport construction materials to the site.
Dr. Mushimba said the project would benefit the people of Kalabo and surrounding areas.
