‘Extend road project to Chakunkula ward’

- By NOEL IYOMBWA

CHAKUNKULA ward is the only area in Lusaka which has not benefited from phase two, three and four of the L400 project, a ward development committee official has complained.

Speaking in an interview, Mr Obert Tambe who is WDC chairperson said despite writing to the Road Development Agency (RDA) many times, nothing had been done.

He said compared to other places in Lusaka, most roads in the Kamanga and Chelstone were in deplorable state.

Mr Tambe said Chelstone was given five kilometers under the Lusaka decongestion project but it had not been fulfilled.

“Our councillor has written many letters to the RDA and other relevant authorities but nothing has been done he doesn’t know what to tell the people in the ward who are asking about the roads.

He called on the Member of Parliament Professor Nkandu Luo to visit the area so that she can have first hand information on what is happening in the area.

And Mr Tambe says he is worried at the state of Kamanga Titandizane community school which has been affected by floods.

He said pupils at the school were forced to wade in water just to get to their classrooms.

A Ward Development Committee official called on the disaster management unit to find a way of solving the problem at the school.

And school head teacher Vernon Nkonde said due to the floods at the school, most pupils have decided to stay home or find other schools.

He said as at last year, the school had 450 learners but only 340 have remained due to the same problem.

“We have massive challenges as you have seen for yourself, our school has been flooded so most pupils have decided to stay home because they are afraid that they can get water bone diseases, others have gone to other schools.

“We are appealing to well wishers to help us buy an environmental friendly piece of land that is environmental friendly,”he said.
