‘Ban tinted vehicle windows’

- By OLIVER SAMBOKO

GOVERNMENT has been urged to outlaw the use of tinted windows for private and public transport vehicles following the heightened insecurity situation in the county.

Lusaka businessman and PF member Chrisantius Changwereza said the banning of tinted windows should be part of Government strategy aimed at ensuring that criminals especially those responsible for gassing of citizens do not escape from police dragnet. He said the Ministry of Communication and Transport should come up with a statutory instrument that would bar cars from having tinted windows on the Zambian roads until the situation normalizes. “The measure should be part of government anti-crime strategy aimed at ensuring that criminals especially those involved in gassing of innocent Zambians are easily identified and traced during security operations,” he said. He said most criminals like drug dealers and now gassers may be using cars with tinted windows following increased roadblocks by Police and therefore it was prudent for Government to put in measures to ensure Zambians were safe from criminal elements. “The measure will not only result in stopping criminals from hiding in tinted cars but also make it easy for enforcement officers at roadblocks to check seat belt adherence and use of telephone in driving violations. Mr Changwereza also welcomed calls by Bible Gospel Church in Africa (BIGOCA) presiding Bishop Peter Ndhlovu to blackout social media in the country until the security situation was normalized. He said sharing the of videos on social media of mobs burning suspected gassers was responsible for the high number of innocent people who have been killed in many parts of the country.
