Restore unity, harmony message – Nevers

- By OLIVER SAMBOKO

THERE is need for the creation of a more just, equal and free

prosperous Zambia without any prejudice based on one’s ethnic

background to enable the country move forward in unison, MMD president Nevers Mumba has said.

Mr Mumba said it was sad that the country had in the recent past seen a rise in carelessly constructed, tribally divisive statements and practices which directly threaten the stability and the very continued co-existence of the people of Zambia.

“We will have to deal urgently with those among us who would want to gain political capital by dividing us, based on our tribe, race, or religion,” he said.

He said one campaign activity his party was going to undertake towards the 2021 general elections was to reestablish the message of unity and harmony started by the founding fathers.

“One of the foremost tasks we have set for the coming campaign is to re-establish the long journey of those who came before us, a journey that created a more united, just, equal, free, caring and more prosperous Zambia without any prejudice

based on one’s ethnic background,” he said.

Mr Mumba said he was going to run for the state Presidency

in next year’s election because he believed that the current

problems and challenges the country was going through cannot be resolved in isolation but through working together as a nation.

“Those perpetrating tribalism should realise that we may have different names, yet we hold common hopes and must move in the same direction towards creating a better Zambia, and a better future for our children and

our children’s

children,” he said.
