Senior citizens demand end to gassing

- By MUYANI SHINJABALE

CITIZENS with information about the master minds of gassing should freely present it to the police to instead of alarming the nation, the Zambia Aged People s Association APA has said.

ZAPA national secretary, Cyprian Pombolokani, said the aged in society were saddened about gassing and barbaric instant mob justice on innocent people.

Mr Pombolokani called on all political party leaders to sober up their cadres if the older persons were to freely participate in the 2021 elections or any by elections in the country.

He said the aged could not participate in the political affairs of the nation as it was characterised by violence as witnessed in all previous by elections which could cause apathy in 2021.

He stated that as leader of an association advocating for better living of the aged, he was happy that President Edgar Lungu ordered defence personnel to help in policing the country.

He implored all Zambians not to take the law in their hands condemning the act of burning each other.

Mr Pombolokani said the barbaric act needed to be stopped immediately and that suspects must be taken to the police.

He appealed to Government to sensitise the people that all those who would touch anyone would be charged with murder.

He was surprised that some people were seen on television beating up and torching people but were not charged.

Zambians, he said, should stop killing each other as they were one and that Zambia was a beacon of peace.
