200 FARMERS IN LIVESTOCK GALORE
ABOUT 200 farmers in Mushindamo will benefit from the Enhanced
Smallholder Livestock Investment Programme under the ministry of Livestock and Fisheries.
Mushindamo District Administrative officer, Oscar Mugala, told the Daily Nation in an interview that the beneficiaries would get goats, cattle as well as chickens on loan basis.
He said the beneficiaries were drawn from the cooperatives and clubs across the district.
Mr Mugala said about 80 clubs and cooperatives applied for the programme, but that only 10 were selected.
“So, depending on what the club applied for, is what they will receive. But the programs involves goats l, cattle and chickens as earlier stated,” he said.
He said beneficiaries had been advised to apply for what they could manage to keep.
“And before they receive the animals, each beneficiary will receive food for animals in advance before they get the animals,” he added.
Under the cattle category, Mr Mugala said that each person would receive two cattle while a bull would be shared.
In the goat category, successful applicants would receive five animals each.
“The condition is that after a certain period of time, the beneficiaries will pass on the animals to other members of their clubs as a way of paying off the loan,” he said.
e has advised the beneficiaries to look after the animals well so that others could also benefit and called on unsuccessful applicants not to despair.
