THE Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) in North-Western province has carried out an inspection in all super markets for products that are said to be harmful for human consumption.
This follows a recent alert from the Ministry of Health that there was some imported products on the Zambian market which were not suitable for human consumption.
CCPC provincial investigator, James Chalungumana, said in an interview that the commission took the initiative in order to make sure that the affected products were removed from the market.
"Following reports that there was some food products on the Zambian market that was not good for human consumption, we undertook an inspection just to make sure that such products are completely removed from the market and safeguard the lives of the general public," he said.
Mr Chalungumana said that during the inspections, CCPC engaged Solwezi Municipal Council Public Health department as well as officers from the Ministry of Health.
He however stated that the inspection conducted revealed that the products were not on the market in Solwezi.
"I wish to inform the general public that so far so good for Solwezi because the said brands are not on the Solwezi market. So people should not worry," he said.
Mr Chalungumana however said some samples had been taken for testing and that once the results were out, the public would be informed.
