Manyinga compliance levels low

- By JACKSON MAPAPAYI

MOST residents in Manyinga are not adhering to Covid-19 preventive measures, Council Secretary Kate Mukonde has lamented.

Ms Mukonde noted that it was disheartening to see people wandering in public without face masks and not practicing social distancing.

She said despite being sensitised on the dangers of the pandemic, people were still not following the guidelines.

She said this shortly after receiving an assortment of materials from Germany International Zambia (GiZ) in Manyinga yesterday.

Ms Mukonde said there was need for people to adhere to public health guidelines especially that North western had recorded some positive cases of the pandemic.

"It has come to the attention of the local authority that despite sensitization, it is not encouraging at all," she said.

She advised members of the public to always observe guidelines in order to avoid the spread of the pandemic.

And Ms Mukonde has commended GiZ for the donation and added that items included face masks, hand sanizers, handwashing facilities, soap and gloves.

Ms Mukonde said council Public Health personnel working at check points and health frontline staff would be the immediate recipients of the items.

Meanwhile, headman Sanyundu in senior Sikufele’s chiefdom has implored Government and stakeholders to involve traditional leaders in the fight against Covid-19.

The traditional leader also bemoaned the lack of face masks among his subjects.
