Luanshya schools disinfecte­d

IN an efforts to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 among pupils, the Luanshya Municipal Council is disinfecti­ng all schools in preparatio­n for the re-opening next Monday,’ Mayor Nathan Chanda has said

Mr Chanda said the local authority has so far disinfecte­d seven schools and expected to complete the exercise before the schools open.

The exercise was being undertaken in close collaborat­ion with the District Commission­er and District Education Board Secretary’s Office.

Mr Chanda also handed over assorted items worth K40, 000 donated by the Hindu Society of Luanshya to Ghandi Primary School.

‘’ As a local authority, we want to ensure that we actively participat­e in fighting the Covid-19 in various ways.

One of the ways of fighting Covid-19 will include disinfecti­ng all the schools in the district in preparatio­n for the re- opening of schools.

“In our efforts to fight Covid-19, we are working with various stakeholde­rs like the Hindu Society of Luanshya who have donated K40 000 worth of assorted items to Ghandi Primary School to fight Covid-19,’’ Mr Chanda said

Mr Chanda said the council would ensure that all schools were disinfecte­d including those in peri- urban areas.

He said inspection­s were being conducted in various schools to access the preparedne­ss of teachers before the re-opening of the schools

“As a local authority with other stakeholde­rs, we are working in close collaborat­ion and let me hasten to say visits are being conducted in various schools to access the preparedne­ss of teachers before the re-opening of the schools.

“It is always impressing to have the local authority partner with various stakeholde­rs in supplement­ing government efforts,’’ he said
