Use some force on reckless guzzlers, orders DC

- By BENNIE MUNDANDO

APPLY minimal force on reckless individuals, who have developed a habit of drinking beer in public and in their cars, Siavonga District Commissioner Lovemore Kanyama has ordered.

The DC said police should not hesitate to use reasonable force on residents abrogating health regulations on COVID-19prevention.

Mr Kanyama said police should resume day and night patrols, and arrest individuals disregarding COVID-19 guidelines.

He said in the past three days, some individuals in the district were taking beer in bars and in the cars with reckless disregard of COVID-19 health guidelines.

“It's to this background that I call upon the Siavonga

Police Command to wake up and apply minimal force on those individuals found wanting. All what we said was to buy takeaways and drink from your homes.

I also want to assure the Siavonga police command that you have my support.

“I want to see sanity in the district, and those trying to undermine our work must receive punishment regardless of their standing in society, including visitors. Siavonga has no record of corona virus and those who were quarantined have since been discharged,” Mr Kanyama said.

He commended the health personnel, The Town Council, the business community, civil servants and the residents for the support and cooperation rendered to his officers.

Meanwhile, Mr Kanyama said the bodies of the fishermen who drowned in Lake Kariba a week ago, have not yet been found.

He said that the Siavonga marine police were still searching for them.
