UPND ARE LETTING HH EMBARRASS HIMSELF ABOUT ELECTRICITY

- By GLENN KALIMBWE By GLENN KALIMBWE

THE continued rantings by the president of the UPND Hakainde Hichilema is becoming tiresome and boring as he has repeatedly been making noise about debates that have become of no consequence to the our situation in Zambia either current or future. This morning he was back on the power issue.

As far as I am concerned, he is either out of touch with reality or he is simply being sabotaged by his media team who are also fed up being led by a person whose only experience in politics is losing elections.

This morning he made a comment claiming that “Zambia is not supposed to have a power deficit and the load shedding it brings.” And he makes claims that his party will solve the problem when he forms his imaginary government.

The point I am trying to make is that politics in Zambia should be moved beyond the power and load shedding debate. Any party that was hoping to make electricity a campaign issue needs to go back and rethink its strategy. President Edgar Lungu has pre-emptied their strike ten steps ahead of the opposition.

Whilst the opposition is still imagining how to fix the power problem, the PF government is on the ground fixing things already. While HH is making a nuisance out of himself by talking about power, the Patriotic Front is rehearsing the procedure for commissioning the first Unit at the 750MGW Kafue Lower project.

If you consider the fact that at the peak, the power deficit is 810 megawatts then you know that the power problem will be history before anyone can gain mileage from it especially that we are also looking to solar mini- grids and coal.

We have parts of Western Province such as Lukulu and portions of North-Western Province that do not know load shedding. Showing that indeed the Patriotic Front while accepting that power has been a challenge due to environmental factors, they have been on top of things. Elections are still away from us it will only benefit Zambians if we once give the government some space to govern not sticking to outdated arguments. I hope the UPND can read this soberly.
