Kaniki women get agro kit
A SOLAR egg incubator and a solar drip irrigation set have been handed over to the women of Chifubu Constituency in Ndola as an empowerment scheme.
Gender Minister, Elizabeth Phiri, said Government was empowering women to exploit opportunities as well as fully participate in the economic development of the country. Ms Phiri said she was pleased to hand over the 440 egg capacity solar incubator and the solar drip irrigation system to the women cooperatives in Chifubu. The handover ceremony took place in Kaniki area in Chifubu constituency. he said the equipment was procured under the Agricultural Development through Value Chain Enhancement project (ADVANCE). She said the equipment was climate smart technologies that used solar energy and was ideal in ensuring that citizens were engaged in productive economic activities throughout the year even with climate change at play. The Minister added that the empowerment was an avenue for agricultural income diversification for the women folk. And Chifubu Member of Parliament (MP) Frank Ng'ambi said the equipment wold change the lives of the people for the better. Dr Ng'ambi stated that there was a lot of vulnerability among the womenfolk in Kaniki, which was a predominantly farming area and thus, the equipment was “life-saving. “He encouraged the women in the area to form cooperatives so that they would receive empowerment and participate in the attainment and creation of wealth in the country. Nyawa Women in Development Coordinator Administration Silanda Ntazana thanked Government for their donation stating that the women trained in various agricultural skills lacked agricultural equipment to support their works.
