LOCALS GET JOBS AT LSTONE RESORT PROJECT
A number of local youths have been employed on the Mosi-oa-tunya Livingstone Resort construction project, which was commissioned recently.
So far, a good number of young men have been employed much to the delight of PF Akapelwa Ward Chairman Ikuka Muleta.
This follows President Edgar Lungu’s directive during the ground breaking to prioritize locals when employing people at the project.
According to the information obtained by the Daily Nation at the weekend, more than 150 have so far been employed already for the start of construction works.
Reacting to the development, Mr Ikuka expressed happiness that the property developers had followed the Head of State’s directive.
“I must state clearly that, this is what we want as people of Livingstone. I am happy that we have received information of a number of our young people being employed at the construction site,” he said
Mr Muleta was hopeful that the trend would continue for the benefit of the people in the tourist capital.
During the ground breaking ceremony, Southern Province Minister Edify Hamukale said the construction of the Mosi- oa-tunya Livingstone Hotel Resort would create fiscal space through the creation of 1,000 jobs in the circle.
Dr Hamukale said that the investment was a huge value on the balance sheet of Southern Province which was in excess of $1million.
The Provincial Minister charged that the investment will also stimulate other investors to put up such facilities around the country or elsewhere so that Zambians can be proud of.
“We are also proud that this project is endogenous and takes the medium income people of Zambia to the banks of the Zambezi River an opportunity which they don’t have because of how expensive the room rates are in other hotels,” he said.
On completion, the Resort would comprise 180 standard hotel rooms and 20 executive stand- alone Charley’s, a state of the art 500 seater capacity conference hall among other facilities.
