‘INCOMPETENT’ UPND COUNCILLORS BASHED

- By ANDREW MUKOMA

INCOMPETENT leaders at the Livingstone City Council have been advised to step aside and allow capable people to deliver development, the Patriotic Front (PF) has said. The ruling party is disappointed that some councillors at the local authority were speaking ill about the rehabilitation of the Maramba Libuyu Bridge by Livingstone Chamber of Commerce president Namakau Siyanga using her personal resources. PF Livingstone constituency chairman, Elias Mwila, said civic leaders at the UPND dominated local authority should resign so that others capable of serving the community could take over. He wondered how the councillors could even have the audacity to condemn efforts from a private citizen, who used her personal resources to repair a bridge. The civic leaders including the mayor were against the Idea by Ms Siyanga to work on the bridge, accusing her of aiming for political office. However, the ruling party noted with dismay the unappreciative behaviour by the councillors, whom he also accused of being jealousy. Mr Mwila said the government always released funds for infrastructure development but it was never used. “But UPND's Neto Halwabala said the allegations by ruling party that some people at the council were frustrating Government efforts were not true. “It is a misplace statement by PF to suggest that the leaders in the council are frustrating developments and should resign. “It is actually the Government which has failed to fund the capital projects such as the Maramba Libuyu Bridge," Mr Halwabala said. He said that the works at the bridge were cosmetics and would be short lived.
