We’ll defend Chitimukulu - Kampyongo
WE will defend Paramount Chief Chitimukulu from some disgruntled politically-charged regime change campaigners who have launched scathing attacks on him, says Minister of Home Affairs, Stephen Kampyongo.
And Paramount Chief Chitimukulu of the Bemba people has mocked those who had sent surrogates to demean him that their mission was unattainable because they would instead be bruised.
Speaking when he paid courtesy call on him at the palace yesterday, Mr Kampyongo assured Paramount Chief Chitimukulu that he would be defended from those trying to fight and destabilise him.
Mr Kampyomgo said as a lawmaker who hailed from the Bemba land, he together with others would not allow their Paramount chief whom they considered as a repository of wisdom and an essential traditional figure in the region to be scandalised by sponsored
young people.
He said the traditional leader should not even have sleepless nights over it because they were there as his children to defend him and deal with the surrogates sent to demean and attack him.
Mr Kampyongo also urged chiefs as custodians of people’s interests and concerns to help Government in sensitising their subjects on the need to take advantage of the mobile issuance of National Registration Cards (NRCs) and obtain the national identity card.
In response, Paramount
Chief Chitimukulu who laughed about it said, “Don’t worry about them, abaiche aba balesunka mumabwe.”
He said those planning to overthrow him would not succeed because he was as strong as a rock.
Paramount Chief Chitimukulu also proposed that parliament should amend the constitution to allow those who had attained 16 years and in possession of an NRC to vote.
He said he did not see any logic in one obtaining an NRC at the age of 16 and only allowed to vote at 18.
