Don’t open non-exam classes, private schools warned

- By SILUMESI MALUMO

ALL private learning institutions that have opened non-examination classes must be closed because it is illegal, Minister of Health Chitalu Chilufya has said.

The minister said: “We have noted that some institution of learning in the private sector have opened non-examination classes, I want to emphasise today that the

Presidential directive remains in effect.”

Dr Chilufya said only amination classes were thorised to open.

He said during the routine Covid-19 update yesterday that it was illegal to open non- examination classes and it would be treated as such.

“As we call for reduced contact between individuals to stop the spread of Covid-19 we do not expect any non-examination classes exauto be opened and this must be a reminder to all to remain compliant to what has been directed to ensure that we stop the spread of Covid-19,” he said.

Dr Chilufya said Government would allow non examination classes to open when Covid-19 cases reduced.

He said it was unreasonable to relax measures now and allow all classes to open when there was a surge of

cases in the country.

He however said 65 new cases of Covid-19 had been recorded in the last 24 hours out of 362 tests conducted.

He said one suspected Covid-19 related death of a 65-year-old female had been recorded. Dr. Chilufya said the victim was hypertensive and had suffered a stroke.

He said very ill patients continue being seen in health facilities and had urged the public to report suspected cases of Covid-19 as early as possible.
