ACC’s reluctance to probe HH
Dear Editor, MAY I through your newspaper take this opportunity to address the Anti-Corruption Commission and find out why they are so reluctant to investigate opposition leaders like Mr Hakainde Hichilema of the UPND? Just why has the ACC not investigated the irregular and corrupt sale of Intercontinental Hotel-Livingstone, where Mr Hichilema, who was lead negotiator on behalf of the government is now the owner with Senior Chief Mukuni in a company based in Panama? Is there a set of rules that precludes opposition leaders like Mr Hichilema from investigation and prosecution? Others, including Mr Chishimba Kambwili have been investigated and are appearing in court. All we ask is that this matter of the sale of government resources that ended up in the hands of the government lead negotiator and his close associate be probed. Why was Intercontinental sold for a song when there was a higher bidder offering $20 milllion but we settled for peanuts? At what point did Mr Hichilema and his friends become gain shareholding in such companies. Should we ignore this when this has had a huge bearing on the economy? There have been calls for a forensic audit of the whole privatisation process and find out what happened to the national assets and where they have ended up. This should be taken seriously by the government and to rest the matter once and for all. It will clear all the hanging information that leads to questions such as the role Mr Hichilema played. All this can be cleared from an audit of the privatisation process.
