Lungu assures Luapula chiefs of development
PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has assured traditional leaders that his administration holds them in high esteem and will work with them to develop their chiefdom.
And President Lungu has advised non-performng members of Parliament to pull up their socks or risk being rejected during the 2021 elections. He said this yesterday when he met chiefs and village head men and women in Samfya. The Head of State urged the MPs to work closely with traditional leaders to develop their constituencies. He said the Zambian people would in 2021 rate their performance and let them continue or not. And representing the other chiefs, Senior Chief Mwewa thanked President Lungu and government for developmental projects being implemented in the area. Senior Chief Mwewa who is chairperson of the Luapula council of chiefs said the traditional leadership in the region had already resolved to help President Lungu achieve his development in goals. Senior Chief Mwewa asked the President to intervene in the traditional wrangles in the area where he accused former Luapula Permanent Secretary, Felix Phiri of having taken part in the illegal installation of Chief Mbulu. In response, the President said bill 10 was the answer to traditional wrangles. He said government was restrained from entangling itself from traditional wrangles. And ZANIS reports that President Lungu has promised the people of Lunga that he will ensure all developmental projects that have stalled in the island are completed. Lunga is an island with a population of more than 60, 000 people lying along the shores of Lake Bangweulu and can only be accessed by water or air transport. President Lungu has expressed deep displeasure that a lot of projects have stalled in Lunga, due to inadequate and lack of proper monitoring capacity by leaders to oversee the implementation of the projects that have been initiated by the government in the area. Earlier, chiefs outlined several challenges being experienced in the region.
