- By NOEL IYOMBWA

MINISTERS have a mammoth tasks to implement what President Edgar Lungu has highlighted in his speech during the opening of Parliament, Economic Association of Zambia national secretary Mutusunge Zulu has said.

Speaking to Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation, Mr Zulu said that the Head of State has set the tone hence the onus is on the ministers and other technocrats to implement what he has said.

He said it was good that the President touched on a number of pertinent issues in his speech including agriculture which he said was doing fine.

“In its fairness it’s a good speech that the President delivered but the onus is on the ministers to execute everything that he has said.

“He has set the tone, I only have a problem with people who are tasked to implement I am glad that he has touched on a number economic issues that have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic including agriculture which is doing fine, ”Mr Zulu said.

He further noted that it’s good that energy deficit would be the thing of the past as the Head of State had announced some pipeline projects to be implemented by the end of the year.

Mr Zulu observed that the President Lungu talked about Infrastructure development which he said should be completed before the elections but the only clarity will be how the projects will be funded in the budget presentation in the next few weeks.

“Mr Lungu talked about Energy and it is good that deficit will be a thing of the past as pipeline projects are coming by the end of the year.

“Ministers should ensure that they actualise what the Head of state said otherwise it will be another talk show,” he said.
