UPND violence uncalled for

-

Dear Editor,

A MPIKA resident is fighting for his life after violent attacks by UPND cadres in Mununga area on Wednesday.

We are committed to uphold the one Zambia, one nation motto, the unifying national slogan the country’s founding fathers pronounced.

It is for this reason that the political foes are allowed free access even in areas where UPND president Hakainde Hichilema publicly insulted the Bemba-speaking people.

Even under immense provocation, the safety of political opponents is guaranteed and we continue to guard the wellbeing of those we detest and are not satisfied whether they can make good national leaders. During HH’s provocative mission calculated to cause chaos in Muchinga Province, the PF youths stayed away from the opposition and had to let them exercise their constitutional rights. From the conversation we had with PF Muchinga Province youth chairman, Francis Robert Kapyanga, the youth had been restrained from disturbing the opposition procession.

However, we find it extremely unfortunate that the UPND had to abuse the ruling party regalia for the sake of fostering their smear campaign.

UPND cadres armed with machetes stormed a house of a Mpika resident destroying property and living one person fighting for his life.

Mr.Hichilema is said to have been heading back from Northern Province where he had travelled to give support to his deputy secretary general Patrick Mucheleka and others who were appearing in court. Upon a stop over at Mpika’s Mununga area, his cadres descended on villagers clad in PF regalia, which led to the destroying of one house and brutal attack of a middle aged man.

Mr.Hichilema in his Facebook Post has however justified the wrong stating that he intended to visit the party offices in Mpika.

We therefore wish to strongly condemn the UPND for dressing their thugs in PF regalia to commit violence. This was calculated to disguise violence and blame it on their opponents.
