‘President Lungu’s eligibility was long settled’

- By SILUMESI MALUMO

THE Constitutional Court ruled on the eligibility of President Edgar Lungu and that is final, Vice-President Inonge Wina has said.

The Vice President said the eligibility of President Lungu which was being debated extensively was already settled.

She told Parliament yesterday: “The court ruled and it rests just like that.”

Ms Wina was responding to Patriotic Front (PF) Chifubu Member of Parliament (MP) Frank Ng'ambi who wanted to know what was being done on the continued debate on the eligibility of President Lungu.

Dr Ng’ambi said others were on record stating that the matter was already settled and those who had continued to undermine the ruling of the Concourt should be charged with contempt of court.

Meanwhile, Ms Wina said that the process to ensure that the former Ministers that stayed in office in 2016 pay back would take a bit long.

She said that the court ruled over the matter but

some processes needed to be done in order for the former Ministers to start paying back.

Ms Wina said there was need to determine on individual basis how much needed to be paid back.

“The court made a ruling on this matter but the process to ensure that the former ministers pay back will take long. There is need to ascertain how much each former Minister will pay and this process is being worked on,” she said.

Ms Wina was responding to Manyinga MP, Robert Lihefu, who wanted to know when the former Ministers who stayed in office in 2016 would start to pay back the money because the court made a ruling over the matter.
