230 occupancy certificates issued in Kimasala
SOLWEZI Municipal Council has issued about 230 occupancy licences in Muzabula area to foster orderly development.
Kimasala ward councilor, Nephani Kamwandi, said the programme was also aimed at enhancing community participation in development initiatives not only in Kimasala ward but the entire Solwezi district.
The councilor was speaking during a sensitization programme on settlement upgrading in Muzabula and Kyawama compounds
Mr Kamwandi added that the programme would involve the re-planning of the area as well as open up roads.
“I want to thank the people of Muzabula for allowing the local authority to re-plan the area as well as open up roads to ensure the development agenda is attained,” he said.
He said that the opening up of roads in Muzabula will facilitate the implementation of many other developmental activities to the betterment of the community.
Solwezi Council Director of Housing and Social Services, Andrew Kalemba, said that the council was spearheading the sensitisation programmes in order to enhance security of land tenure through provision of ownership documents to residents.
Mr Kalemba explained that Germany International Zambia had been rendering support to ensure the council’s development agenda of settlement upgrading yielded positive fruit.
Earlier, Chief Settlement Officer, Chileshe Nkonda, emphasized the importance of compliance by all residents in Muzabula and Kimasala to ensure that development was attained.
Ms Nkonda however bemoaned vandalism of beacons and erecting structures in the road reserves as this hindered the development agenda.
She emphasised the importance of community participation and cooperation on developmental issues such as acquiring land occupancy licenses in order to secure land tenure.
