‘Armageddon’ activists, demand Bemba chiefs
BEMBA chiefs have urged the police to cage Armageddon seekers ahead of this year’s general elections.
Senior Chief Nkula of Chinsali said police should be proactive and arrest those issuing statements that have potential to cause chaos in the country.
The traditional leader said a statement by UPND deputy national youth chairperson, Gilbert Liswaniso, that his members were ready to shed blood was irresponsible and police should move in and investigate.
Senior Chief Nkula said law enforcement agencies should prevent any possible chaos by caging Armageddon seekers.
“Those advocating for violence and bloodshed ahead of the elections should not be taken lightly and it’s high time police moved in and firmly dealt with them to safe guard peace and people’s lives,” he said.
And Chief Luchembe of Kanchibiya said police should take serious action against trouble-makers.
“It doesn’t matter if it will be regarded as persecution or any term they may want to use because a statement like the one attributed to Mr Liswaniso is retrogressive to national peace and security,” Chief Luchembe said.
He said there should be no room for violence and bloodshed in a democracy.
Chief Luchembe said those advocating for blood-shed do not have the interest of the country at heart.
“People advocating for violence should think over and understand that violence cannot solve anything instead they should dialogue if they are issues that need to be resolved,” Chief Luchembe said.
