PF INFIGHTING WORRYING – MUNIR ZULU
Competition is threatening divisions and therefore splitting of the vote
INFIGHTING within the ruling Patriotic Front ahead of the 2021 elections will lead to fragmentation and split votes, Munir Zulu has warned.
Mr Zulu, who described himself as a strong supporter of President Edgar Lungu, has called on the party leadership to facilitate reconciliation to create a united and cohesive party that will march into elections confident to take the day with an overwhelming victory.
He cited the case of the Kabwata constituency in Lusaka where he said there was ferocious infighting which was not good for the party.
“But this is true of other constituencies in Lusaka and other parts of the country where competition was threatening divisions and therefore splitting of the vote.
“There is no need for the competition in Kabwata if one of the candidates was assured of another elective position,” he said.
Mr Zulu also appealed for the early selection of candidates to facilitate healing and communal campaigning.
Speaking in an interview on Millennium Radio Mr Zulu also bemoaned the inroads made by the UPND in Eastern Province, which was a result of internal divisions
“Something must be done very quickly to reverse the situation. If I was in charge a number of people would not be in their positions following that result.” he said.
Mr Zulu called on the party to embrace the youth who wanted to play significant and vital leadership roles in the PF.
“Time had gone when the youth were promised to be the future of the country, we are here now and want to participate effectively,” he said.
Ï support President Lungu but I will stand as an independent because there were many frustrations when people realised that I harboured ambitions of standing in Lumezi, he said.
Mr Zulu appealed to the party leadership to initiate a process of reconciliation to ensure settlement of outstanding matters that included assurances of continued participation in the party and its future related structures.
