Command Centre purely for safety purposes, says veep

- By NOEL IYOMBWA

THE construction of a national command centre is not meant for monitoring citizen’s movements during and after the coming elections, says Vice President Inonge Wina.

The Vice-President told parliament the idea to construct a national command centre was not new but started five years ago.

Ms Wina said that safety of the general public was a high priority for Government in any

given country. She stated that the

public should be protected at all times not only during elections through the use of atest technology to bring out information which the eyes cannot bring out.

Ms Wina noted that any Zambian should welcome such movements because it was a sign that the country was moving with technology which other countries had already done.

“Mr Speaker this project started many years ago it is not a new project. Zambians should welcome such moves because it shows that Government is moving with the latest technology which other governments have done,” she said.

The Vice President was

responding to Itezhi Tezhi MP, Herbert Shabula, who wanted to know why construction of the national command centre was a priority for government.

Ms. Wina said that the MP should be pleased that the Government was moving with the latest trend in technology.

And Ms. Wina has told the House that the Public Order Act is applicable for everyone and not only for opposition parties. She assured MPs that the act will be applied fairl.

Ms Wina was answering Luampa MP, Chikote Makozo, who wanted to know what Government would do to ensure that the playing field was levelled.
