STATE AIDS DISPLACED FAMILIES

- By ROGERS KALERO

GOVERNMENT has given out cement and roofing sheets to 208 families in Kandabwe Township in Kitwe whose houses = collapsed during heavy rains last month

The affected families were given 600 pockets of cement and 700 roofing sheets under the 'build back better ' project of the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU).

Nkana Member of Parliament Alexander Chiteme handed over the pockets of cement and roofing sheets and urged the affected families not to sell the materials but build better structures.

Mr Chiteme said Government had fulfilled the promise of providing the roofing sheets and cement to the affected families

“I must stress that you should not sell these materials. Make sure you secure these materials and start to build your structures. People must not mislead you in any way because we care as Government," Mr Chiteme said.

At the same function, Kitwe District Commissioner, Chileshe Bweupe, said the fact that Government had fulfilled its promise of supporting the displaced families, was a clear demonstration of caring for the people. Mr Bweupe said Government will always act appropriately to deal with various challenges and disasters which people may face in various parts of the country

"While others are criticising Government without providing solutions, President Edgar Lungu always strives to alleviate the suffering of the people," Mr Bweupe said.
