Eden University in K446, 000 Covid-19 research grant
EDEN University of Lusaka has received about K446, 000 for a bilateral collaborative Covid-19 research project.
The National Scientific Technology Council (NSTC) granted the privately-owned higher leaning institution.
Speaking during the cheque presentation, Eden University Head of Environmental
Health Department, School of Medicine and Health Sciences Mr. Kennedy Chishimba said this grant can never come at a preferred time over this as the university is making serious strides on research activities.
“As a university in possibility I believe we are moving in the correct way and nothing will dissuade our will power to dive deep into other research programmes. Mr. Chishimba said.
At the point when you start to get such sort of acknowledgment and regard from valid institutions such as NSTC and believe in the capabilities of the university then you realise that you are moving with the world at the correct time.
Mr. Chishimba, who is also one of the research members said the university will not relent even in the wake of accepting this grant but will work extra hard to expand the research base and turn Eden University into one of the thinktanks of research.
Meanwhile, Principal Investigator Dr Harvey Kamboyi said it is gratifying to learn that the government values and trusts scientific approaches of both private and public research institutions whether local or international in respect of the fight against Covid-19
The two-year project that is expected to start next month will be carried out with Eduardo Mondlane University of Mozambique.
Recently, Eden University went into its first history books when it got two grants among them Environmental Risk Factors contributing to the Transmission of Covid-19 in Zambia principally zeroing in on Lusaka as a contextual investigation.
The other research was on the impact of Social- Cultural Dynamics in Transmission on Covid-19 in Zambia working with Levy Mwanawasa Medical University.
IT is Smarter, simpler, and easy to comply with the requirements of the law. All Value Added Tax (VAT) registered suppliers and businesses are expected to have swiping machines as required by the law.
The use of swiping machines does not take away the requirement to issue an invoice or receipt for the transaction from your accounting system or package. This does not in any way replace the use of Electronic Fiscal Devices (EFDs) for those that have these gadgets.
The requirements are simple, first, always issue tax invoice/ receipts for every transaction. Secondly, always allow your clients to have an option to either pay cash or use the card through swiping. Last if you have an EFD machine, always ensure it is being used to avoid any inconvenience from the tax authorities.
The Zambia Revenue Authority is always exploring new ways to make service delivery more efficient. The introduction of swiping machines as a requirement is aimed at improving business compliance and security on the part of the business owners.
This measure will enable the effective collection of the much-needed revenue that will help improve our country economically now more than ever before. It starts with you! As a business, ensure that you implement and enforce the use of swiping machines together with cash options, issue tax invoiced, and also use of EFDs in your stores or retail outlets.
As a consumer, ensure that you demand a receipt on every purchase; avoid cash transactions but use swiping machines and report those that fail to comply. It is your given right to demand a receipt while it’s against the law to bypass or tamper with the EFDs.
By demanding a fiscal receipt, it means ZRA would receive information of your purchase immediately and VAT registered traders would remit the required amount of VAT.
That way, together, we can all be a part of this great effort to advance our country.
Remember, any person who, after purchasing goods or services, fails to demand and retain a fiscal receipt or fails to report a refusal by a user to issue a fiscal receipt as required by the law, commits an offense. If you fail to demand a fiscal receipt or fail to report a refusal to issue a fiscal receipt, you are not only committing an offense but you are also paying your tax to a trader instead of remitting to the government. My tax, my countries development.

SOCIAL media abuse may lead to seriously consequences if not controlled. The platform which is now used for hate speech and mud slinging must be checked.
We have seen the youth abuse social media without remorse or respect.
Calling upon the Zambia Youths to be responsible and use the social media positively.
It disheartening at the space we are moving and Zambia risk to plunge in deeper conflict because of the abuse of social media.
Let's channel our efforts to more progressive things than spending our time on insulting our leaders through social media. Youths are leaders of tomorrow and they should show more character than what is happening today.
May I take this opportunity to advise the youths country use the social media positively.
And every blog has an admin therefore admin should ensure the blogs they are managing are free of attacking leaders, this will ensure discipline otherwise one day the admin will be held accountable. Why should you entertain the those how are insulting leaders. That's not our culture.
