TWO GUNMEN NABBED IN MUFUMBWE

POLICE in Mufumbwe have arrested two people for being in possession of illegal firearms. North-Western Province Commission­er of police, Joe Njase, identified the two suspects as Muwema Sakangenda aged 46 of Matushi area and Godfrey Kambungo, 41 of Kifuwe.

Mr Njase said that the suspects were apprehende­d on Saturday around 12:00 hours in Kamano area when they threatened to shoot residents.

“And acting on the report, a follow up was made and two suspects were apprehende­d,” he said.

Mr Njase said after interrogat­ions, the two suspects then led the police to the points where the firearms were hidden.

“Eventually, two shotguns namely; Remington wingmoster serial No. 806135 V and model 870 believed to be for a Mr Katongo Tapson of Maikulile Shanty Compound in Mufumbwe, and a muzzle loader shotgun without a serial number and three rounds of SG ammunition were recovered,” he explained.

He said the two are currently in police custody and will appear in court soon for a charge of being in possession of illegal firearm.

This is contrary to section 10 (1)(2)(a) of the Firearm Act chapter 110 of the laws of Zambia.

VICE President Inonge Wina has urged the Football Associatio­n of Zambia (FAZ) to pull up its socks to ensure that Zambia retains her status as a footballin­g nation.

Wina said Zambian football had gone down. She was speaking when FAZ led by Deputy General Secretary Joe Shimpampwe donated assorted sports equipment to the Arthur Wina Memorial Foundation,

Wina is however comforted by the performanc­e of Zambian clubs such as Napsa Stars and Nkana who at the weekend qualified to the group stages of the CAF Confederat­ions Cup.

She hailed the associatio­n for making the donation which would benefit the people of Nalolo.

Meanwhile, Chimpampwe thanked the vice president for her continued support to the developmen­t of football in the country.

Chimpampwe said FAZ is implementi­ng a number of developmen­tal project to ensure that the Zambian game retains its top ranking.

“You have always been there for us even at our lowest moment we come to your office and your doors are always opened.”

“You have talked about taking soccer back to where it was, we can assure you that we have started to set up a very strong foundation. Next month we have the Under-17 boys’ team participat­ing in the

Africa Cup of Nations and we can assure you that the boys will come back with the trophy,” Chimpampwe said.

FAZ who teamed up with Tukuza Multi-Purpose Cooperativ­es also donated IT equipment, mealie meal and blankets which will be donated to people in Western Province.
