Rufunsa gets K35m road upgrade
GOVERNMENT has released more than K35 million towards the construction of an all-weather 22-km gravel road in Chipeketi area in Chintimbwi ward of Rufunsa.
Rufunsa Town Council chairman, Bartholomew Kalambalala, described it as a milestone achievement.
He observed that the 22- km road which links the area to the Great East Road was currently in a deplorable state.
He was confident that the project would greatly alleviate the suffering of the people in the area once it is completed.
Mr Kalambalala said the Ministry of Local Government released K35, 880, 673. 40 towards the project.
He said that the money would be used to upgrade the road and that Dankal Sams Mining and General Dealers Limited would do the work.
He said that apart from road formation, works would include vegetation clearing, setting out, drainage, grading, forming, embankment, construction and re-gravelling.
Mr Kalambala said that the project was expected to be completed in 12 months’ time and was happy that the works had commenced.
He pointed out that it had been very difficult for the people to access social amenities such as health, education and police services and as such the project would greatly benefit the rural population.
Meanwhile, residents of Chipeketi village have commended Government for the development, stating that they had been crying for the improvement of the road network for a long time.
Senior Headman Chipeketi said the people had been crying for the improvement of the road network in the area for a long time.
He observed that the road which was originally constructed by the Roman Catholic Missionaries in the colonial era has not been graded since independence.
Headman Chipeketi said once the road is done, they will no longer have to struggle to access medical care, education, among other services as the road will now be passable throughout the year.
