'I WILL MOBILISE WOMEN COUNTRYWIDE'

- By ANDREW MUKOMA

NEWLYappointed PF member of central committee Annie Tischer has pledged to mobilise more women across the country in support of President Edgar Lungu’s candidature ahead of the general elections.

Ms Tischer said in Livingstone that the ruling party has worked hard to deliver to all parts of the country and therefore, the party will retain power on August 12, this year.

She thanked President Edgar Lungu for giving her an opportunity to serve in the supreme governing body of the ruling party.

Ms Tischer said her appointment was a testimony that Mr Lungu believed in promoting gender equality at all levels of governance.

And Southern Province PF chairperson Lawrence Evans has expressed confidence in the newly appointed members of the central committee.

President Lungu, with ratification from the general conference, has appointed Edify Hamukale, Kebby Mbewe, Annie Tischer, Mundia Mundale and Syacheye Madyenkhuku as members of the PF central committee from Southern Province.

Mr Evans said the appointment of the five members was a clear indication that the President wanted to build a decision making team that had representation from regions in the country.

He said through his ‘One Zambia One Nation’ team, Mr Lungu wanted to balance all the regions, provinces and ethnicity in the supreme organ of the party.

He said the head of State had proved his commitment for the people of Southern Province by appointing five people for the first time in the history of the party.

“As the leadership in the province we are excited with the appointment of five all members of the central committee from our province and this clearly shows the love that the President has for the people of Southern Province,” Mr Evans said.

He called on the new members of the central committee to work closely with the provincial leadership to mobilise the party in the province. Mr Evans said the ruling party in the province had a huge task of ensuring that President Lungu and the PF remained in office after the August 12 general elections.
