KITWE AT DAGGERS DRAWN

- By MICHAEL MIYOBA

RELEGATION-BOUND Kitwe United will fight for revenge when they face Nkana FC in today’s rescheduled Week-19 Copperbelt derby at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe as Nkana fight to escape the relegation zone.

Having won the first round 2-0 at Nkana Stadium, the visitors will target to complete a double over their old time rivals who are still searching for their first win in the MTN Super League after 23 games.

Motivated by their triumph in the CAF Confederations Cup where they beat Namungo FC from Tanzania 1-0 to move to six points in Group D of the continental

competition, Nkana FC the favourites to reign preme in today’s derby.

Nkana coach Kelvin Kaindu will be hopping his charges will emulate their continental form which saw them pick six points from the last two games.

“We hope that what we saw in the Confederations Cup can be seen in the league because that is where we are

are su

struggling a lot,” Kaindu said.

With four defeats and one draw in the last five league matches, Nkana will seek redemption to move away from the relegation zone where they are on 16th position with 21 points and a win over Kitwe which is bottom on the Super League table will propel the Kitwe giants to 15th.

Kaindu will pray that after giving Nkana a crucial home win in the Confederations Cup, striker Fred Tshimenga and midfielder, Harison Chisala will pray a crucial role for the defending champions to bounce back from a losing streak in the league.

Meanwhile, in the second game of the double header at Arthur Davies Stadium, Power Dynamos will aim to move back into top four by beating Indeni FC.

The tie against Indeni presents Power Dynamos the opportunity to avenge their 1-0 defeat suffered when they visited Indeni Sports complex in Ndola last November.

In other midweek fixtures, Young Green Eagles will aim to redeem themselves from a 6-0 defeat when they face second-placed Zanaco FC who plans to reduce Zesco United’s lead at the summit of the league table to four points.

It is another tricky fixture for Zanaco coach Chris Kaunda who on Sunday celebrated beating Lusaka Dynamos in a Lusaka derby.

And despite Zanaco having humiliated Young Eagles 6-0 in the first round, Kaunda is expecting a tough match at Khosa Stadium in Kafue.

“The game against Lusaka Dynamos was a different ball game we are playing against Young Green Eagles we have a lot of things to look at,” Kaunda said.

The Bankers will be without Musa Sulimani but Kaunda is not concerned because of having enough material to fill the void.

Zanaco are trailing Zesco by seven points and a win over Young Green eagles will propel them to 42 points.

Tomorrow’s league action will see Nkwazi hosting Red Arrows in a Lusaka derby at Edwin Imboela Stadium while, Forest Rangers will date Napsa Stars who will aim to bounce back from the 5-1 bashing by Cameroon’s Coton Sport in the CAF Confederations Cup at the weekend.
