Zambia hails Italian assistance

THE Zambia Army has welcomed the gesture by an Italian company, Leonardo, to help the country train in the use of the cyber security devices and digital space detection for prevention of illicit activities.

General William Sikazwe said the provision of the military aircraft, both rotary and fixed wing including a trainer by the Italian Government will always be cherished by the Defence Forces.

He said this yesterday when Italian Ambassador to Zambia Antonio Maggiore paid a courtesy call him at his office in Lusaka.

Lieutenant General Sikazwe said theb defence force was thankful that Leonardo, will in due course give chance to the security personnel to focus on security priorities such as, the use of Aeronautic industry and Aircraft, Border Control Integrated Systems and Ground Patrolling Vehicles.

He said the Zambia Army will continue to cherish the cordial co-operation that exists between the two countries, and he is hopeful that the Ambassador’s visit will further foster the relationsh­ip between the two Defence Forces in order to explore more areas of military cooperatio­n based on mutual benefits.

And d Italian Ambassador to Zambia, Antonio Maggiore has hailed the Zambia Army for the role it plays in safeguardi­ng and promoting peace in the region.

Ambassador Maggiore said Zambia Army is a profession­al entity whose contributi­on to peace in Africa needs commendati­ons.

He said Zambia Army was admirable because it has always supported the Zambian People and institutio­ns by creating an enabling environmen­t for economic growth.

Ambassador Maggiore said Italy has always worked together with the Zambian Government in various areas since independen­ce.

He urged the Zambia Army to explore areas of Mutual Corporatio­n with the Italian Defence Industry.
