SEED VARIETY KEY TO BUMPER HARVEST

HAVING the right knowledge and seed variety is key in having a bumper harvest, Zambia National Service commanding officer for Mumbwa Fabian Kaluwe has said.

Speaking when Corteva Agriscienc­e holders of Panner and pioneer seed managing director Samson Nyendwa paid a courtesy call on the ZNS farm in Mumbwa Lieutenant colonel Kaluwe said the success of the farm has been due to the right agricultur­e practice and planting of right seed such as panner 7 m 81 and 83.

He said the unit planted 250 hectares of maize on a 350 hectares farm and is expecting a bumper harvest because the season presented very well.

Lt Colonel Kaluwe stated that farmers should ensure that they plant seeds according to the regions there in and ensure that they practice good farming methods.

He said the unit has for a long time partnered with Corteva and that results have been successful.

Colonel Kaluwe said farming is a business hence the need to have quality grains that will attract the market.

He further said that informatio­n is cardinal in agricultur­e and commended Corteva science for holding a workshop to teach about agricultur­e practices.

“Our desire as a unit is to see that the relationsh­ip with Corteva grows because we always start the season with them and end with them and the results have been excellent, “he said.

And Corteva managing director Samson Nyendwa said the company’s desire is to ensure that customer service is prioritize­d.

Mr Nyendwa said that it is encouragin­g to get feedback from the farmer which in this case is Zambia National Service.

“At Corteva customer service is in our DNA, we ensure that customer service is critical and we go out of the way to ensure quality customer service.

“We are not just interested in making profits but ensure that farmers are successful because farming is a business, “he said.

“We have the well diversifyi­ng product in our 90 years of maize breeding with our enabling technology, “he said.

Mr Nyendwa said many are the times when farmers complain about poor yields because of choosing the wrong seed variety.

He said the commitment of the company to the farmers is to produce the best services to improve the lives of farmers in the country and for them to have the best yields.
