Stop raising unnecessary tension, opposition told
OPPOSITION political parties have been urged to desist from raising unnecessary tension in Zambia over President Lungu’s eligibility to stand in the August 12, 2021 general elections.
Patriotic Front (PF) Mandevu constituency aspiring parliamentary candidate Amon Maviya says the Constitutional Court’s ruling on President Lungu’s eligibility should be taken as a serious lesson by the opposition and all their sympathisers.
In an interview, Mr. Maviya said the opposition in Zambia should stop propagating tension in the nation through senseless interference in the country’s democratic process in this election year.
He said it remains an undisputed wish for all well-meaning Zambians to have a peaceful election year and this must not be disturbed by opposition leaders who have sensed defeat in the forthcoming elections. “I commend the ConCourt for safeguarding the Constitutional provisions and protecting President Lungu’s democratic rights. Bampi Kapalasa (UPND Katuba MP) and his paymasters should now concentrate on planning for their pending loss as opposed to wasting the court’s time,” Mr.
Maviya said.
Last week the Constitutional Court again ruled once that President Lungu is eligible to stand in the forthcoming 2021 General Elections.
In a judgment read by Judge Mungeni Mulenga on a petition filed by Mr. Kapalasa and another, the court ruled that it has already settled the issues regarding President Lungu’s eligibility in the Dan Pule and others versus the Attorney General,
