KANGANJA SPEAKS TOUGH
INSPECTOR General of Police Kakoma Kanganja has called on police officers in the country collaborate well the Ministry of Health, local authorities and the Public Health Institute in the enforcing COVID-19 preventive guidelines.
Mr Kanganja advised officers to create strong bonds and intensity joint operations with local authorities so as to ensure compliance among owners of bars, casinos and night clubs.
He said the responsibility of police officers was to effectively enforce the laws so that members of the public could adhere to the interventions put in place by Government.
The Inspector General said this during an interaction with senior police officers drawn from Livingstone, Kazungula and Zimba districts at Hill Crest Technical Secondary School.
Mr Kanganja said he was in the province to check and appreciate for himself the security situation and levels of preparedness in policing this year’s general elections. “As such, we should prove that Zambia Police can go beyond rhetoric and deal diligently with perpetrators of violence in all its forms, regardless of social and political affiliations or status in society.
“This is the message I have carried and conveyed to the officers from the time in came in Southern Province. We have seen and heard what violence can do if left unchecked or tolerated. It is for this reason that I won’t allow violence to be the order of the day under my watch,” Mr Kanganja warned.
He implored his officers not to drop their guard but deal sternly with those involved in violence and abuse of human rights.
Mr Kanganja urged police officers to be action oriented and not wait for instructions from others when they were there to provide solutions as commanders on the ground.
And Southern Province Commissioner of police, Charles Lungu, informed Mr Kanganja that so far, Livingstone and Kazungula had not recorded any serious acts of violence apart from
two assault incidents in Livingstone involving political parties.
Mr Lungu, however, assured that officers would continue monitoring all the campaign activities of participating political parties.
