KAWECHE AND PANJI, NOT FIT TO REPRESENT THE LEGACY OF THE LATE KK

- GEOFFREY MULENGA

IDear editor, T’s no wonder late Dr. Kenneth Kaunda entrusted UNIP in the hands of Tilyenji Kaunda, because he is more sober and level headed.

When you hear and see the statement made by Panji Kaunda who happens to be the oldest son of the late founding father of our nation Dr KAUNDA, you can almost wonder, what in the world has entered into these siblings. Dr Kaunda’s legacy is a huge responsibility on Panji and the rest of his children.

Barely a month, since we buried him, Panji is making a very heavy political statement at the backdrop of what Kaweche his younger brother did during the funeral.

For the first time in the history of this country, we were subjected to international embarrassment, where Kaweche conniving with Sangwa who is a known UPND surrogate went to court over the burial site. They couldn’t even wait for the funeral to end, to accord Dr KAUNDA the dignity he deserves to rest in peace.

For once we thought, Panji was more mature and worth of the responsibility as he provided leadership. Even though, the country was subjected to conflicting statements and counter statements which signaled to us that there was indeed a much bigger problem.

Now that Dr KAUNDA, is no more, we expect the oldest son Panji to be cautious and responsible with the statements that come out of his mouth. Of course, Panji kaunda is a spent force, and really no one listens to him or pays attention to his numerous rantings, but our advice to him is that he must safeguard the little remaining respect we have as a result of him being the surviving oldest son of our late great leader.

He is free to be UPND as he has put it, but he must not drag the name of Dr Kaunda into the mess of politics. Because it can get ugly. And in the long run, we can end up soiling his father’s good name.

Let him make no mistake as to think, Dr Kaunda did no bad things in this country. We have not forgotten all the bad things and the good things, it’s just that as country we have resolved to let bygones be bygones in the interest of the nation. But let him not take us there, let him not take the nation down memory lane on the altar of politics. He will not recover, can we let Dr Kaunda rest in peace. Avoid the political terrains.

This conduct to issue partisan statements, makes us suspect that Kaweche’s behaviour during the funeral of their father had his secret blessings. It’s no wonder the father entrusted the once mighty UNIP with Tilyenji Kaunda because Panji is not a stable and responsible son.

We understand their frustrations, they are over grown men who lived dependent on their father to survive. And now that he is no more, they cannot fathom how they will live. UNIP with its vast level of resources is no longer in their hands, and the burial site is not in their reach, it is in the hands of govt. They are grown men, who can’t continue living like little orphans. We will not spare them. They are not mature enough to maintain such a rich and great legacy, let them take leaf from the children of late Dr Chiluba.

Panji should shut up, he has no moral audacity to start telling Zambians what they should do. A person who was declared bankrupt for failure to pay debt. He was supposed to be jailed but only to be saved by the courts.

In fact Panji should be grateful to the PF especially the late Michael Sata, had it not been for Sata, Panji would have not even been looking the way he is looking.
