EX- RAILWAY BOSS ATANGA IN GOATS THEFT CHARGE
FORMER Zambia Railways Limited chief executive officer Professor Muyenga Atanga and five others are today (Thursday) scheduled to appear in the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing more than 2,000 goats worth K277, 500.
And two Lusaka men have been charged with obtaining K90, 000 by false pretences from a businessman of Indian origin after impersonating State House staff sent to buy bicycles and other campaign materials on behalf of immediate past President Edgar Lungu.
Prof. Atanga, the husband of National Democratic Congress secretary general Bridget Atanga, is jointly charged with Ivan Munsanje, Silven Mukonka, Thomas Sikapizye, Jedrick Mwiinde, and Joseph Siamana for stock theft involving 2,006 goats belonging to Mubanga Kanyama.
Allegations are that Munsanje of PG farms, Mukonka also of PG farms, Prof Atanga, Siamana, of Kanankatapa farms, Sikapazye, a lives stock technician, and Mwiinde, a manager, on August 15, 2021 in Lusaka jointly and whilst acting together stole the goats.
Court documents availed before Lusaka Magistrate Sanford Ngobola however did not indicate Prof. Atanga’s name on the list of accused persons but it appeared in the particulars of offence.
Mr. Ngobola adjourned the case to today to enable the prosecution include Prof. Atanga’s name on the list of accused persons.
Meanwhile, a businessman and an information communication technology specialist have been charged with obtaining K90, 000 cash from business executive Iiyes Patel by falsely pretending that they were State House employees assigned to buy bicycles and other election materials on behalf of the Republican President of Zambia when in fact not.
In this case, the accused persons Saviour Mukuka and Banda Mukwanya are alleged to have committed the said offence on unknown dates but between October 1, 2019 and April 16, 2020.
Mukuka and Banda are scheduled to appear before Magistrate Jenifer Bwalya.
