- By OLIVER SAMBOKO

ZAMBIA has made Africa proud for transiting from one Government to another peacefully, Malawian President and SADC Chairperson Lazarus Chakwera has said.

He also praised the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) for presiding over a free and fair election.

The Malawian leader was speaking on Tuesday at the Inauguration of Zambia 7th President Hakainde Hichilema at National heroes stadium in Lusaka.

Dr Chakwera who was among several African leaders that attended the ceremony, said the Zambia history has brought joy to the continent of Africa.

“Those virtues have brought joy to homes at the foot of Table Mountain in South Africa; those virtues have brought joy to farmers on the banks of the Casamance River in Senegal; those virtues have brought joy to fishermen in their boats on the waters of Lake Mai-Ndombe in the Democratic Republic of Congo,” he said.

Dr Chakwera said the smooth and peaceful transition of power from one president to another has distinguished Zambia as a bastion of democracy and a beacon of constitutionalism.

He said the peace in Zambia is the triumph of the best virtues of the African spirit.

“This is the embodiment of the Africa we want because this here is the Africa we know ourselves to be,” he said adding that no longer should the watching world dare to define what Africa is, lest they misrepresent it yet again by majoring on minors or advancing the usual Afro-pessimism that amplifies negatives read out of context.

He said the Zambian story is proof that Africa is not an infant to be babysat.

Dr Chakwera said the achievement by Zambia is positive proof that Africa is not a free for all to be scrambled for, hoodwinked, and robbed by the mercenaries of Eastern and Western greed.

He also said the Zambian story has put the truest answer on display for all the world to see that Africa is the spirit of unity.

Dr Chakwera also paid special gratitude Former president Edgar Lungu for his maturity and magnanimity by accepting to hand over power peacefully.
