PF in North-West intact, says official
THE Patriotic Front (PF) North-Western Province says the party has remained intact despite being defeated by the United Party for National Development (UPND) in last month’s general elections.
Pf provincial secretary, Dennis Kanyakula, said in an interview that those that were leaving the party were not genuine PF members.
Mr Kanyakula said the PF members who were defecting to UPND came from the Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) in 2011.
“But genuine PF members, the true greens are still with us. Those you are seeing ditching the former ruling party are those that came from MMD as earlier stated,” Mr Kanyakula said.
He said that those ditching PF did not understand party ideology and the UPND would be accepting such members at their own peril.
He said it was a trend for some people to jump from one political party to another just for their convenience without contributing anything to grow the party.
“There is just eating and so even when they go to UPND, I don’t think if they will be able to contribute anything,” he said.
Mr Kanyakula also said the provincial executive committee was working with the petitions committee constituted by the central committee to look at parliamentary seats to be petitioned in the province.
He said the PEC was analysing incidents which happened in all the 12 constituencies during the elections, looking at the gravity of the incidences to establish seats which will have merits to petition.
Mr Kanyakula however congratulated the UPND for winning the just ended elections stating that politics is about development and not a mere struggle for power.
