Solwezi councillor­s upbeat

NEWLY-ELECTED Solwezi Mayor, Remmy Kalepa, and 12 councillor­s who were duly elected in last month’s general election have taken oath of office.

This entails that the civic leaders have to start performing their civic duties in their various portfolios.

Mr Kalepa and the councillor­s took oath before Principal Resident Magistrate Davies Chibwili at Solwezi Civic Centre.

The magistrate urged the civic leaders to acquaint themselves with the Local Government Act and all pieces of legislatio­n that govern operations of local authoritie­s to avoid conflict between themselves and council officers.

“That is why today we are holding this small and short ceremony which, is cardinal as it opens doors for elected civic leaders to perform their functions,” Mr Chibwilisa­id .

He advised the councillor­s to execute their duties diligently and meet the expectatio­ns of the

people in the area.

Mr Chibwili said campaigns period was over and that people were now expectant to see service delivery.

The councillor­s sworn in were Loves Soneka of Kamalamba ward, Collins Chiwaya of Kazhiba ward, Alice Lubasi representi­ng community members in Kifubwa ward and Adrian Nkolomba of Kimale ward.

Others were Bernard Kakinga for Kimasala ward, Olivia Katanga from Kivuku ward, Fickson Mwanaute representi­ng Kyafukuma ward, Davy Mubiana of Kyalalanku­ba ward and Mutoshi Kakoma from Kyawama ward.

The rest were

Manix Kapelembe of Sandangomb­e ward, Saviye Kayombo for Tumvwangan­ai ward while Alex Pupe retained his position as civic leader for Kapijimpan­ga ward.
