George Chilufya ditches Power Dynamos for Nkana

- By MICHAEL MIYOBA

NKANA Football Club has named former Power Dynamos Football Club first assistant coach George Chilufya as Beston Chambeshi’s first assistant.

New Nkana FC Chief Executive Officer Kelvin Mutafu who was unveiled on Thursday confirmed the news in a statement issued by Nkana FC media relations officer Lilian Musenge.

Mutafu also confirmed the appointment of former Chambishi Football Club coach Dennis “Easyman” Njapao who has been appointed as second assistant coach.

Mutafu said the new appointments were aimed at repositioning and strengthening the technical bench for the 2021/2022 soccer season and beyond.

Meanwhile, Chilufya, who is also Under-17 national team coach and former Green Eagles first assistant coach, said he was happy to return to Nkana where he made his first impact as a player.

Chilufya who takes over from Simonda Kaunda whose contract expired said that he was delighted to work under the experienced Chambeshi and hoped that with the combination of other coaches on the technical bench, the team will deliver the expected results.

“It is good and an honour for me to come back to Nkana though not in the same capacity as I left. I left as a player, but now I am coming back as a coach.

“It is every coach’s dream to coach a legendary club like Nkana though it demands for a lot of hard work and commitment. It’s always a great feeling to reunite with family because this is a team that gave me opportunities as a player having joined as a young boy and ending up as a professional who carried the mentorship from Nkana coaches and the club to wherever I went,” Chilufya said.

Chilufya said his expectations for Nkana during the 2021/2022 soccer season and beyond were high.

“I believe we are going to have a better season than the previous one. Nkana is a symbol for Zambian football so we should make sure we take it back to where it belongs,” Chilufya said.
