UPND was not ready to govern - Lubinda

Mr Hichilema said this yesterday when he officiated at the relaunch of the Covid vaccine campaign at the Olympic Youth Developmen­t Centre (OYDC) in Lusaka.

He urged political, civic, religious, traditiona­l leaders and other stakeholde­r to all fully participat­e in ensuring that all citizens are fully vaccinated.

Mr Hichilema said the third wave, overwhelme­d the country’s health system which saw hospitals running out of bed space, oxygen, medication­s, personnel protective equipment and human resources.

He said mass vaccinatio­n of citizens is the only way of preparing for a possible fourth wave and any future threats of the pandemic.

THE UPND was just not ready to govern and that is the reason why they have failed to fulfil their promises, Patriotic Front (PF) vice president Given Lubinda has said.

Mr Lubinda said instead of threatenin­g PF members to divert attention, the UPND government should concentrat­e on delivering on its campaign promises.

Speaking in Masaiti to drum up support for PF candidate Bornwell Ntambo for the Kamufingu ward local government elections yesterday, Mr Lubinda said that the UPND should allow democracy to take charge.

He observed that the UPND

should not wait for the fourth wave to make the decision as memories of the third wave are still fresh.

He said there is urgent need to reinvigora­te the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, whose first, second and third waves have left an indelible mark on the socio-economic landscape of the country.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Sylvia Masebo said the ministry is already taking steps to improve the health of the promised the Zambian people a lot of things which they should fulfil.

Mr Lubinda said that the PF will support the government in bettering the lives of Zambians adding that when the PF is reminding government over its promises it does not mean that it is criticisin­g.

“We will make sure that Government delivers its promises to the Zambian people,” he said.

He wondered why the ruling party President keeps mentioning Mr Edgar Lungu’s name in his speeches instead of working for the people.

He claimed that the UPND government has brought misery to the people of Zambia.

He also said that it was God’s will for the PF to lose elections because there was going to be violence. Mr Lubinda said that despite winning elections, the UPND cadres have continued harassing people especially those who belong to the former ruling party. He expressed optimism that the PF will bounce back to power in 2026 because the UPND has failed.

Meanwhile Masaiti member of Parliament Michael Katambo advised people of Kamufingu to vote for the PF.
